Required Qualifications:

-A bachelor’s degree in journalism, broadcasting, communications or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. (Many similar roles require university‐level credentials.)
-Minimum 3 years’ experience in television broadcasting as a videographer/photographer/editor; at least 2 years in a leadership role.
-Demonstrated proficiency in news videography and editing under tight deadlines; skilled in Edius, or comparable editing software; familiarity with LiveU technology.
-Strong visual storytelling skills; ability to produce high‐impact content with sound, video, voice over, package structure.
-Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; ability to operate news units.

Position Overview

To update, gather and create news content for KTAR.com and ArizonaSports.com. Ensure that all news and sports content on the websites is fresh and represents the high standards of the Company. Work closely and alongside the Newsroom and other departments to achieve this goal. This job involves reporting on general news stories, sports stories and then writing articles for the websites.

What You Will Do:

Primary job duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage daily content, information, news and features for stations’ websites. Produce graphics/images, web pages, stories, audio/video, etc. to accomplish this function.
  • Responsible for making sure that websites are continually fresh from both a content and graphical perspective. Ensure that the KTAR News overall image of quality and leadership is carried over to the web site.
  • Ensure deadlines are met and projects are completed on time.
  • Develop web pages and websites for new site features, events, activities, etc. This includes gathering relevant information and graphic elements from various departments and entities for the website.
  • Ensure that the website provides and promotes sales activities. Help direct site toward becoming a profitable business activity. Put a priority on sales production work.
  • Market and promote the stations via the Internet and the website. This includes stations’ image and brand, events, products, etc. maximize the sites as effective communications medium for stations.
  • Interface and coordinate with technical team regarding technical aspects of web operations (servers, connectivity, etc.). Work with IT to ensure that systems are functioning properly.
  • Ensure that all web related systems are functioning on a daily basis; streaming, content/data feeds, ad servers, etc.
  • Manage online events and special features (interactive contests, message boards, etc.) as well as social media content.
  • Offer ideas, suggestions and other concepts for the stations’ Internet activities that are innovative and creative.

 

Skills and Experience We Are Looking For:

  • Two years post high school education in communication/journalism with skills in the following areas: writing, computer and operational skills, related field, or equivalent.

Job Summary/Description:  

KBJR is looking for a news anchor to lead our weekend evening broadcasts. The successful candidate will anchor weekend evening news on air and across digital and social platforms, will perform general assignment reporter duties during the week, and fill in weekday anchoring as needed.

The other three days of this journalist’s workweek will be spent working with our weekday team as a multimedia journalist. Evenings can bring multiple opportunities to grow as a live reporter. From breaking news to engaging interviews and demonstrations with new businesses, the reporter role is vital to taking our viewers out of the studio.

Some common skills needed for both roles include time management, curiosity, the ability to work on a deadline, strong writing skills, and the ability to adapt. We encourage our staff to get involved in our community through various organizations and volunteer efforts.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

- Gathering data and relevant information on local and national newsworthy events
- Create and present accurate, fair, unbiased news content as assigned. Responsible for providing news and information across multiple platforms and for presenting content both inside KBJR studios and remotely
- Must be visible in the community and make a reasonable number of appearances in the local DMA

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The National Editor is part of the States Newsroom team that sets ethical and editorial standards for reporting and commentary, and ensures that newsrooms follow IRS guidelines for nonprofit news organizations.

As supervisor to a group of state editors, the National Editor will be responsible for the following:

  • Holding weekly check-ins to ensure standards are met, communicate analytics and audience strategies, and facilitate improvements in their newsrooms

  • Conducting annual performance reviews
  • Advising on national or cross-outlet projects, specific outlet improvement plans, and best editing practices

QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a college degree, extensive reporting and editing experience (at least 10 years), deep knowledge of AP style and libel laws, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. We are looking for the proven ability to manage newsrooms and complex reporting projects. Flexibility, a love for news, and an entrepreneurial spirit are essential qualities.

This full-time staff position can be based anywhere in the U.S. Our newsrooms are located in 39 states and you may be asked to work a schedule that might be outside of your time zone.

  • Receive assignment or evaluate news leads and news tips to develop story ideas.
  • Gather and verify factual information regarding stories through interview, observation, and research.
  • Organize material, determine slant or emphasis, and write story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.
  • Shoot video and still photos to illustrate stories.
  • Edit, or assist in editing, videos for all multimedia platforms.
  • Appear on television program when conducting taped interview or narration
