Job Summary/Description:

Are you the kind of person who refreshes social feeds before coffee? Who feels the rush of a breaking story and immediately thinks, "How do we tell this better than anyone else?" We're not looking for someone to just post content. We're looking for a digital powerhouse — a sharp, self-driven storyteller ready to own the digital landscape for one of Arizona's most trusted and recognized news brands. At Arizona's Family (KTVK/KPHO), you'll be at the epicenter of our digital operation — crafting fast-paced, high-impact content that reaches and resonates with millions of Arizonans every single day. If that sounds like your kind of challenge, keep reading.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

What you’ll do
• Craft Compelling Narratives
• Transform complex breaking stories into clear, concise, and engaging AP-style articles built for today's digital audience — content that informs, captivates, and keeps readers coming back.
• Own Breaking News Delivery
• Write and deploy urgent, high-impact push notifications that cut through the noise and get critical information directly into the hands of our audience — instantly, accurately, and with authority.
• Ignite Social Conversations
• Create scroll-stopping social content — posts, stories, reels, and more — across all major platforms. You'll build community, spark engagement, and drive real interaction with our audience.
• Monitor, Analyze & Adapt
• Stay plugged into trending topics, real-time analytics, and the competitive landscape. Make smart, data-informed decisions on the fly to maximize content performance and audience reach.
• Collaborate Fearlessly
• Partner closely with our newsroom, reporters, and producers to deliver seamless, multi-platform coverage that's both rigorously accurate and genuinely electrifying.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• 1–2+ years of experience in a fast-paced digital news environment — you've been in the trenches and thrived
• Exceptional AP-style writing and editing skills — you catch typos at a glance and write headlines that demand a click
• Audience-first mindset — you instinctively know which story belongs on which platform and why
• Sharp editorial judgment — you can analyze a situation, identify the key angle, and make confident decisions in real time
• Unmatched energy and initiative — you bring enthusiasm to every task and take full ownership of your work
• CMS & social media publishing proficiency — you navigate digital backends like a pro
• Grace under pressure — you don't just keep up when news breaks, you excel
• Relentless curiosity — you're always asking "What's next?" and "How can we do this better?"

Why You'll Love It Here
• Front-Row Seat to Breaking News: Be at the heart of Arizona’s digital news operation, making an immediate impact every single day.
• Innovation at its Core: Gray media is constantly evolving – you’ll be empowered to experiment, iterate, and lead new digital strategies.
• True Team Collaboration: Work alongside passionate journalists and digital pros who are committed to excellence and to each other.

Can you tell a story that stops a scroll and commands a screen? Are you the kind of editor who lives for the adrenaline of a breaking news cycle but also knows exactly how to cut a sports highlight reel that feels like a cinematic masterpiece? Arizona’s Family is looking for a versatile, high-energy News & Sports Video Editor to join our powerhouse team in Phoenix. We don’t just "cut tape" here—we craft visual experiences across broadcast, social, and digital platforms that empower Arizonans to live their best lives. If you’re a technical wizard with a creative soul and a "get it done" attitude, we want to see your reel.

What You'll Do:
• Craft compelling narratives: Edit high-impact video for news, sports, and special projects across all platforms (TV, web, and social).
• Own the sports beat: Cut fast-paced highlights and features for the Arizona Family Sports network that capture the heart of the game.
• Produce and edit sports podcasts: Collaborate directly with the sports department to bring our sports podcasts to life with high-quality audio and video production.
• Drive social engagement: Create platform-specific content that feels native to Instagram, TikTok, and X—because digital isn't an afterthought here.
• Capture the action: Step behind the lens to shoot high-quality video in the field when the story calls for it.
• Manage the feed: Acquire and route video feeds from satellite, microwave, and backpacks, ensuring our field crews are always ready for air.
• Master the workflow: Work closely with the Chief News Editor to keep our content management and archive systems running like a well-oiled machine.
• Collaborate in real-time: Communicate with control rooms and field crews with urgency and precision to execute flawless live broadcasts.

What You Bring:
• Non-linear expertise: You’re a pro with modern editing software and understand the technical nuances of digital workflows.
• A dual-threat mindset: You’re just as comfortable editing a hard news package as you are a hype video for a Friday night kickoff.
• Visual storytelling chops: You have an "eye" for great shots and an "ear" for perfect pacing.
• Field readiness: Experience (or a strong desire to learn) shooting video in the field—you aren't afraid to leave the edit suite.
• Digital fluency: You understand what makes a video go viral and how to optimize content for different social platforms.
• Grace under pressure: You thrive in a fast-paced, high-stress environment and never miss a deadline (even when the clock is ticking down).
• Technical savvy: Familiarity with receiving feeds and managing assets in a content management system.
• Team-first attitude: You’re a communicator who lifts up the team and is always looking for ways to improve the final product.

Why You'll Love It Here:
• Be a part of a powerhouse: Work for Arizona’s most-watched station and a leader in multi-platform innovation.
• Real community impact: Your work helps raise millions for local charities and powers movements like our Surprise Squad.
• Creative freedom: We value "scrappiness" and digital-first thinking—if you have a great idea for a social edit, we want to hear it.
• Growth opportunities: At Gray Media, we focus on the training and development of the best and brightest in the business.

Requirements:

Qualifications/Requirements:

• High School diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism/Production, Communications, or equivalent experience preferred
• Two years’ experience working as a news video editor in a television news environment preferred
• Strong understanding of non-linear editing
• Familiarity with receiving video feeds from satellite, microwave, backpack, and other transmission sources preferred
• Must be able to work accurately in a fast-paced, high-stress environment while consistently meeting deadlines
