The American Indian Studies Program is seeking a Communications & Digital Media Student Assistant to support AIS’s digital presence through creative content, storytelling, and outreach. This role is ideal for a student who enjoys writing, designing, social media strategy, and supporting communications around events. At 15–20 hours per week with flexible scheduling and hybrid work options, you will help strengthen AIS’s visibility across ASU and within Indigenous-serving communities. The role will also support select communications projects connected to the Center for Indian Education.
In this position, you will promote AIS courses, events, and initiatives through social media, newsletters, email campaigns, and website updates. You’ll contribute ideas, develop content, assist with podcast production, and support event communications. The role offers hands-on experience in digital marketing, branding, storytelling, and analytics—ideal preparation for careers in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, and community engagement.
Essential Duties:
Desired Qualifications:
- Preferred academic backgrounds: Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Digital Media, Marketing, American Indian Studies, Graphic Design, Humanities, Social Sciences.
- Experience working with or on behalf of Indigenous students, organizations, communities, or initiatives.
- Demonstrated respect for Indigenous perspectives and community-centered communication practices.
- Demonstrated experience using social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, X, and LinkedIn in a communications or storytelling context.
- Demonstrated strong writing and editing skills with an ability to create clear, concise, and engaging content.
- Experience creating or distributing electronic newsletters (Mailchimp, Constant Contact, etc.).
- Experience working with design tools such as Canva, Adobe Express, or similar platforms.
- Working Knowledge of ASU branding and communication guidelines, or willingness to learn.
- Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Must be self-motivated, proactive, and highly organized with strong attention to detail.
Working Environment:
- This flexible hybrid position supports your academic schedule. The Communications & Digital Media Student Assistant will work approximately 15–20 hours per week, completing tasks both in the American Indian Studies Program office in Discovery Hall (Tempe campus) and remotely as appropriate.
- Regular check-ins with AIS staff ensure a collaborative and student-centered experience.
- Some in-person attendance will be required for team meetings, AIS events, photography, or podcast recording sessions.

The Communications & Digital Media Student Assistant will support AIS’s efforts to share program initiatives, highlight student and faculty accomplishments, and strengthen the program’s visibility within ASU and Indigenous-serving communities.
