Expected hours per week: 5-6 hours per week

Availability: Open to discussing weekly availability with applicant

Modality: This internship may involve a mix of remote and in-person work, depending on projects and availability

Compensation: Unpaid

About us:
GreenDesert.org is committed to inspiring and educating people on how to live simpler, more sustainable lives while protecting our environment. With over 100 videos and more than five million views on our YouTube channel (GreenDesertTV), we showcase how sustainable practices can be achieved anywhere—even in the desert. Our goal is simple: if we can make the desert green, we can be green anywhere. We’re looking for enthusiastic, open-minded individuals who are passionate about creating positive environmental change and enjoy working in a fun, creative, and driven environment.

To learn more about us, go to:
http://greendesert.org

Duties and Responsibilities:

GreenDesert.org shows people how to live sustainably. We grow food in the desert, build school gardens, explore off-grid living, and tell stories that prove sustainable living is possible anywhere. We’ve created hundreds of educational videos with over 5 million views, but what matters most is impact: kids harvesting food they grew, families learning to compost, off-grid shipping container homes coming to life, and people realizing sustainability doesn’t have to be complicated. If we can make the desert green… we can be green anywhere.

This is a hands-on, creative internship where your work goes live.

  • Help shoot and edit short-form and long-form videos (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok)
  • Brainstorm content ideas around sustainability, gardening, and environmental topics that you would actually want to watch
  • Research sustainability topics and local green projects
  • Help with school gardens and on-site shoots
  • Assist with scheduling, posting, and managing social media content

You won’t be fetching coffee. You’ll be creating content people actually see.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university program related to media production, communications, environmental studies, sustainability, journalism, or a related field
  • Experience with video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, CapCut, or similar)
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills
  • Familiarity with social media platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok
  • Interest in sustainability, environmental education, or climate-related topics
  • Creative, curious, and comfortable working in a collaborative environment
  • Are self-motivated, curious, and open-minded

Experience helps but passion, creativity, and follow-through matter more to us.

Good to Know

  • Interns should have access to their own computer and basic video editing tools
  • Some filming may take place off-site; reliable transportation is helpful but not required
  • This internship may involve a mix of remote and in-person work, depending on projects and availability
  • Flexible schedule that can work around school commitments

Why Students Choose This Internship

Because you’ll leave with:

  • Published work, not just “experience”
  • Real-world media skills
  • A portfolio you can actually show
  • And the feeling that your work matters

If you want an internship that’s meaningful, creative, and not boring… this might be your place.
