Job Description:
Pay Rate: $15.62 per hour
The Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS) Department seeks proactive, creative reporters to tell the story of student life at ASU, including, but not limited to, highlighting student success and achievement, living on campus, student entrepreneurship, grants, students serving the community, outstanding performing and visual artists, etc. Under minimal supervision, student writers will be required to construct compelling journalistic stories using reporting and interviewing. Successful job candidates will demonstrate a passion for all things ASU and a talent for telling stories.
The ASU Student Life writer will specialize in writing but will have the opportunity, support, and training to expand their skills in marketing, videography, photography, social media, and analytics.
The ideal candidate is comfortable interviewing fellow students, pitching story ideas, and adapting to shifting priorities in a fast-paced newsroom environment.

Days and Schedule:
Days and hours will vary depending on business needs and students’ availability. Must have availability between Monday and Friday. Prefer availability during summer and school breaks, plus willingness to highlight ASU student life at the ASU West, Polytechnic, and Downtown Phoenix locations, and cover events on nights and weekends. Able to work 10 hours per week.
Essential Duties:
- Attention to detail and respect for deadlines are necessary.
- Evidence of effective communication skills; must be able to interview subjects/conduct research and translate content into an accurate and relevant story with the intended audience in mind.
- Conceive of and pitch story ideas that appeal to students.
- Receive and execute multiple weekly assignments.
- Carry out an assignment from conception to completion.
- Produce compelling content to be published across multiple digital channels.
- Cover events in a journalistic style, telling the story of ASU Educational Outreach and Student Services.
- Learn and adhere to Arizona State University writing protocols.
- Adhere to journalistic principles of verification and fact-checking.
- Attend weekly team meetings and contribute weekly story ideas.
- Ensure all content is on-brand, consistent in terms of style, quality, messaging, and optimized for the user experience.
- Use a defined workflow for requesting, creating, editing, and publishing content and deliverables.
- Must have the ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience writing articles, copy editing, and proofreading following AP style.
- Ability to attend on-campus events and interview students, staff, and faculty about their experience.
- Knowledge and experience in social media, including scheduling, writing, and evaluating content.
- Excellent at collaborating with many contributors.
- Interest in learning about and promoting Educational Outreach and Student Services units, programs, resources, and events.
- Majoring in journalism, English, creative writing, film, digital marketing, public relations, communication, or any other relevant major preferred.

Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS) is committed to enrolling all qualified students at Arizona State University and assisting them in their academic success. EOSS provides a broad range of services and support to students and prospective students ranging from outreach efforts with K–12 schools, orientation programs for new freshmen, bridge programs to assist the transition to a university environment, and a wide variety of services, programs and activities for enrolled students. EOSS has direct responsibility for multiple departments across four campuses, some of which include the Dean of Students, University Housing, Health Services, Counseling Services, Disability Resources, the Memorial Union, Upward Bound and TRIO programs, Sun Devil Fitness, Student Government, Student Media, Career Services and others.
