Internship approval

Cronkite students who have found and secured an internship on their own must submit their internship to the Cronkite Career and Professional Development team to evaluate it for applicability to their major.

Submitting an internship for approval

Any Cronkite student who has found an internship on their own or from the Cronkite School’s internship opportunities site are required to contact the Cronkite Career and Professional Development team about the internship as soon as it has been secured.

Securing an internship through a Cronkite Internship Interview Day

Cronkite students who secured an internship through participating in one of our Internship Interview Days do NOT need to submit it. A Cronkite Career and Professional Development staff member will work with you after the event to assist with your enrollment process.

When to submit an internship for approval

A review of an internship does not have a deadline. However, the form will serve as your request for a permission override into a Cronkite internship course. Students must follow the ASU Academic Calendar to know the course enrollment deadlines for the semester they are planning to do their internship while simultaneously enrolling into the internship course. Students cannot earn retroactive credit for a previously completed internship.

Compensation policy

The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication advocates for students to accept paid internships. However, we understand that not all internships can be paid. We encourage students to review our school’s Compensation policy for internships. If you have any concerns about your compensation for an internship, please reach out to us as soon as possible at cronkitecareers@asu.edu.
