Anchored by the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, ASU’s Downtown Phoenix campus gives students the best of both worlds: a close-knit academic community and the professional opportunities of a major media market.
A campus built for student life
The Cronkite School's six-story, state-of-the-art building anchors the Downtown Phoenix campus alongside ASU academic centers for law, public service, global management, health and medicine, including ASU's new John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering. For mass communication students, that means the city becomes an extension of the classroom.
The Downtown Phoenix campus' academic buildings, residence halls, dining, fitness facilities and student spaces are all within an easy walk.
Most first-year students live next to the Cronkite School in the Gordon Commons residence hall, while others reside in Fusion on First. Both boast access to student dining, community spaces and restaurants throughout downtown. The adjacent Arizona Center adds even more dining, retail and gathering options.
The Sun Devil Fitness Complex offers fitness equipment, group exercise spaces, gymnasiums, an indoor track and more. Its rooftop pool gives students a place to recharge with skyline views.
Close to news, sports and government
Cronkite’s downtown location gives students direct access to the people, places and organizations that shape media. Students are near professional newsrooms including The Arizona Republic, azcentral.com and NBC 12News, as well as city, county and state government offices, courts, the Arizona State Capitol and the Phoenix Convention Center.
The campus is also close to major sports and entertainment venues, including Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the Mortgage Matchup Center, home of the Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury and major concerts.

Downtown Phoenix gives students a creative, connected place to explore beyond class. Roosevelt Row offers galleries, restaurants, coffee shops, public art and First Friday events. Connected across the Valley
Dedicated ASU shuttles whisk students from the Downtown Phoenix campus to ASU's other metropolitan Phoenix campuses for classes, clubs, athletics and university events; it's common for ASU students to bounce back and forth between campuses each day. The Valley Metro light rail also serves the Downtown Phoenix campus, making it easy for students to travel to Tempe, Mesa and other parts of the metro area. Cronkite students conveniently complete their degrees downtown while staying connected to the full ASU experience.
