The Roy W. Howard fellowship places Howard Center alumni in investigative nonprofit newsrooms across the U.S. for one year.
Howard Center grads: Apply in September!
Fellows receive: Professional salary per newsroom policy + $7,500 for relocation and training/conferences.
Timeline: Application portal opens mid-September; fellowships begin in January or July.
Previous newsrooms have ranged from the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists to NPR and Mississippi Today.
Eligibility: Applicants must have passed at least one semester in the Howard Center while earning a bachelor’s or master’s degree. Howard Center graduates not selected in their first post-graduate application may re-apply up to two more times within three years of their graduation date. For example, if you graduate in May, August or December 2026 and you applied for the 2027 fellowship year in September 2026, you’re eligible to apply for the next round of applications in September 2027 and September 2028 IF you weren’t already selected as a RWH fellow.
