Fall 2021 Convocation information
The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication Fall 2021 convocation ceremony will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021 at 7:30 p.m. at ASU at Arizona Federal Theatre. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Graduates should arrive at 6:30 p.m. There will be signage directing graduates to the West entrance of Arizona Federal Theatre off of 5th Ave. The processional will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. Degree candidates’ names will be read as they cross the stage to receive personal congratulations from Dean Battinto L. Batts Jr. The ceremony will end at approximately 8:30 p.m.
The university undergraduate commencement ceremony will be held on Monday, Dec. 13, 2021, at 3 p.m. on Frank Kush Field at Sun Devil Stadium on the ASU Tempe campus. The university graduate commencement ceremony will be held on Monday, Dec. 13 at 9 a.m. at Desert Financial Arena on the ASU Tempe campus. ASU President Michael M. Crow will confer degrees upon graduating students at these ceremonies. For more information, visit the University’s Graduation Website.
Spring/Summer/Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 graduates
Students who completed coursework in 2020 or May of 2021 may participate in December 2021 and future in-person celebrations. Click here to submit information. This link is for 2020 or spring 2021 graduates only. Once your graduation information is uploaded to the Marching Order website, the Commencement and Convocation RSVP link will appear on your myASU account. Please note that this process may take a few days.

Applying for graduation
Students planning to graduate in fall 2021 should apply for graduation before Oct. 1. Visit the University Registrar Graduation Page for graduation application instructions. An additional $25 fee will be assessed for each additional concurrent degree. A late fee of $35 will be assessed to anyone applying after the Oct. 1 deadline.
*To be considered for Cronkite Convocation special student awards and to ensure your name appears in the Cronkite Convocation program, you must apply to graduate by the Oct. 1 graduation application deadline.
Diplomas are mailed approximately six to eight weeks after the degree conferral date to the home address on file with University Registrar Services. Please update your home address via MyASU prior to Commencement to ensure the delivery of your diploma.
If you are eligible for honors cords, the Registrar’s Office will automatically mail them to you. Please update your home address via MyASU to ensure the delivery of your honors cords.
The MarchingOrder RSVP link will be available on the MyASU accounts of all students who have successfully applied for graduation. The registration site for Fall 2021 in-person graduation events will be open the week of Oct. 18.

Each student may RSVP for up to 8 guests. Guest tickets are available on Marching Order through your MyASU. Additional tickets will be released at a later date. Students will receive an email to request additional tickets.

Students should indicate on the MarchingOrder RSVP form that special arrangements are needed and include a description of what kind of accommodation will be required. Students should also contact the Cronkite School Events team at email@example.com to further discuss the arrangements.

Students should indicate on the MarchingOrder RSVP form the number of guests in need of special seating arrangements and a description of what kind of accommodation each guest will require. Caps and gowns
Graduates must wear official ASU caps and gowns during the commencement and convocation ceremonies. Tassels are worn on the right at convocation. Master’s candidates may wear their hoods. Cap and gown arrangements can be made through the ASU Bookstore. Students eligible for honor cords may pick them up at any Registrar’s Office. More information about honors eligibility may be found on the University’s Graduation Website.
Graduates will be able to purchase everything they need for graduation such as caps, gowns, announcements, frames, class rings and more at the Fall 2021 Online Grad Fair on Friday, Oct. 15 at 7 a.m. MST to Sunday, Oct. 24 at 9 p.m. MST. The Online Grad Fair is the only time when students can get a discount on graduation packages. Graduating students will receive an email on Friday, Oct. 15 with a unique link directing them to the Online Grad Fair.

ASU has contracted with GradImages to take professional photographs of graduates backstage prior to the start of the ceremony and as they receive personal congratulations at the Cronkite School’s convocation ceremony. Graduates will receive a proof and price information from GradImages approximately seven to ten days after graduation. There is no obligation to make a purchase. Arizona State University partners with The Commencement Group for our graduation ceremonies to provide special commemorative flowers and gift items for sale during commencement. These special gift items include t-shirts featuring all graduates names, and Kukui Spirit Necklaces. These items can be purchased in advance by accessing this link and items can picked up onsite at the commencement and convocation ceremonies. Orders can be placed until 9 p.m. the evening before a ceremony takes place.
Graduates will receive a name card when they check in for the convocation ceremony. Name cards contain the graduate’s name and contact information as entered in the MarchingOrder RSVP form. At the appropriate time during the ceremony, candidates will be asked to stand and proceed to the stage. As candidates approach the stage, they will hand their name card to the announcer. As each name is called, the candidate should walk across the stage and shake hands with Dean Batts. Graduates will be presented with a diploma case as they leave the stage.
Directions and parking
Arizona Federal Theatre is located in Downtown Phoenix at 400 W. Washington St., Phoenix. Limited free parking is available for graduates and guests in the Adams Street Garage located at 401 W. Adams St., Phoenix on the north side of Adams St. between 4th and 5th avenues.The garage will be clearly marked with balloons. Entrance to the parking garage states “Employee Parking Only” – see picture below. Access to the garage is available beginning at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 14. Your patience is appreciated upon exit of the garage as all Cronkite Convocation graduates, guests, faculty and staff will be exiting the parking garage around the same time.
