Applying to Graduate

Spring 2023 Graduation Filing Deadline: February 15, 2023

In order to officially graduate from the university, you must apply for graduation through your MyASU or in the Graduation Office. In order for your name to appear in the Commencement Program, you must apply to graduate by February 15. There is a $50 filing fee and $25 for each additional concurrent degree. A late fee of $35 will apply if filing after the February 15 deadline. Please contact your program coordinator for deadlines and instructions on when to complete your iPOS and application for graduation.

Note: Applying to graduate with the university is separate from participating in graduation ceremonies. In order to officially graduate from the university, students must complete all degree requirements and apply for graduation through the university. Please visit ASU’s Next Steps for Graduates site, which lists several steps to help students through the process of preparing to graduate.

Desert Financial Arena, 600 E. Veterans Way

Convocation honors graduating Cronkite students. During convocation, you will receive your diploma case, have your name read, walk across the stage to pause and have your photo and video clip taken, and then shake hands with Dean Batts. Graduates must arrive at check-in, which is located at the southeast entrance of Sun Devil Stadium at 8 a.m. to check-in and receive their reader card. Doors to the arena open at 8:30 a.m. The ceremony is expected to last two hours.

Guest tickets are NOT required for Convocation Ceremony or ASU Commencement. Other ceremonies may require tickets. If you have family and friends who cannot attend the ceremony, they can watch it live (or recently recorded) at http://www.ustream.tv/asutv.

Commencement is the official Arizona State University ceremony for graduates. All graduates are encouraged to attend this ceremony, and should plan to arrive by 6 p.m. ASU President Michael M. Crow will confer degrees upon graduating students at these ceremonies. For more information, visit the University’s Graduation Website.

Ceremony Registration Instructions

Once you apply for graduation, you must RSVP to attend convocation and/or commencement. In early March, the link to RSVP will become live on your MyASU page. Please note, the “Register for Ceremonies” link will not appear on your MyASU page until that designated time.

The deadline to RSVP is Wednesday, April 12 at 11:59 p.m.

How to RSVP for Convocation and/or University Commencement

  1. Go to the My Programs box on the right side of MyASU.
  2. Click on the “Graduation” tab.
  3. Click on “RSVP for Ceremonies.”
  4. Follow the instructions to RSVP.

Spring 2023 Veterans Honor Stole Ceremony

Desert Financial Arena

At the end of each semester, the Pat Tillman Veterans Center and the ASU Alumni Association recognizes student veteran graduates with the Veterans Honor Stole Ceremony. Eligible students need to register for the ceremony in order to receive the stole. If you are unable to attend the Veterans Honor Stole Ceremony, eligible students can pick up their veteran stole at either ASU Graduate Commencement or the Cronkite Convocation ceremony. All veterans are welcome and encouraged to wear the stole for both ASU Graduate Commencement and Convocation ceremonies.

Photo and Video

Grad Images, Inc. is the official photographer for our ceremony. All graduates are photographed twice. A proof sheet and price list will be mailed to each graduate approximately 10 days after the ceremony. In addition, an electronic order form will be emailed to the email address you used to RSVP.

For those not able to attend convocation ceremonies, Grad Images will be taking complimentary graduation photos at each of ASU’s campuses.

Lot 59 is available to the general public during the convocation ceremony. Additional parking is available in the Packard Drive South parking structure. More information about parking »

Food, Drink, and Clear Bag Policy

Concession stands will be open for guests on the main concourse. Food and beverages will not be allowed on the floor. Desert Financial Arena observes ASU’s clear bag policy for everyone (graduating students, parents, families, guests, faculty, staff, etc.). Cap and Gown Order Information

Caps and gowns are required for all graduates attending any graduation ceremony. Caps, gowns and personalized graduation announcements may be purchased online through Herff Jones.

Graduation Fair Dates

The Spring 2023 Grad Fair will be online and is the only time graduation packages will be discounted. 

The Online Grad Fair will run from Friday, February 10 at 8:00 a.m. MST to Friday, March 3 at 8:00 p.m. MST. Keep an eye on your inbox on Friday, February 10 for the unique URL you will need to be able to access your discounted graduation packages. 

If you are not able to make the Online Grad Fair, you can purchase your graduation package online before April 8. Please note, after the Grad Fair, graduation packages will be full price. After the Grad Fair, all four Sun Devil Campus Stores will have graduation products available for purchase until graduation.

Guests requiring special assistance

Students should indicate on the MarchingOrder RSVP form the number of guests in need of special seating arrangements and a description of what kind of accommodation each guest will require. Also, Cronkite students, please contact the Cronkite School Events team at csevents@asu.edu to further discuss arrangements for any of your guests needing special assistance.

Caps and gowns

Graduates must wear official ASU caps and gowns during the commencement and convocation ceremonies. Tassels are worn on the right at convocation. Master’s candidates may wear their hoods. Cap and gown arrangements can be made through the ASU Bookstore

Grad Fair

Graduates will be able to purchase everything they need for graduation such as caps, gowns, announcements, frames, class rings and more at the Spring 2023 Grad Fair Online, which will run from Friday, Feb 10th, at 8 a.m. MST to Friday, March 3, at 8 p.m. MST.

The Grad Fair Online is the only time when students can get a discount on graduation packages. Graduating students should have received an email on Friday, Feb. 10 with a unique link directing them to the Online Grad Fair. For more information about Grad Fair, click here.

Flowers

Leis and bouquets will be sold at the convocation ceremonies. Students and guests are encouraged to pre-order for pick up before the ceremony so they can wear their leis on stage and in pictures. To order, visit the Commencement Group pre-order page.
