The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication spring 2017 convocation ceremony will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. at Comerica Theatre in downtown Phoenix. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Graduates should arrive at the west side of Comerica Theatre (5th Ave. between W. Adams and W. Washington Streets) beginning at 5:30 p.m. There will be signage directing the graduates to the line-up area for the processional. The processional will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. Degree candidates' names will be read as they cross the stage to receive personal congratulations from Dean Christopher Callahan. The ceremony will end at approximately 8 p.m.
The university undergraduate commencement ceremony will be held on Monday, May 8, at 7:30 p.m. in Sun Devil Stadium on the ASU Tempe campus. The university graduate commencement ceremony will be held on Monday, May 8, at 9:30 a.m. in Wells Fargo Arena on the ASU Tempe campus. ASU President Michael M. Crow will confer degrees upon graduating students at these ceremonies. For more information, visit the University's Graduation web site.
Applying for Graduation
Students planning to graduate in spring 2017 should apply for graduation before Feb. 15, 2017. Visit the University Registrar Servicesfor graduation application instructions. An additional $25 fee will be assessed for each additional concurrent degree. A late fee of $35 will be assessed to anyone applying after the Feb. 15 deadline.
Diplomas are mailed approximately six to eight weeks after the degree conferral date to the home address on file with University Registrar Services. Please update your home address via MyASU prior to Commencement to ensure the delivery of your diploma.
The MarchingOrder RSVP link will be available on the MyASU accounts of all students who have successfully applied for graduation. For step by step instructions to RSVP for Commencement and Convocation, please visit the University’s Graduation web site.
Please note that changes to graduates’ personal information on the MarchingOrder form will apply only to this convocation ceremony. To make changes to permanent information with ASU, sign into MyASU.
Each student may RSVP for up to 12 guests. Tickets are not required for the Cronkite School convocation ceremony.
Graduating Students Requiring Special Assistance
Students should indicate on the MarchingOrder RSVP form that special arrangements are needed and include a description of what kind of accommodation will be required. Students should also contact the Cronkite School Events team at 602.496.7845 to further discuss the arrangements.
Guests Requiring Special Assistance
Students should indicate on the MarchingOrder RSVP form the number of guests in need of special seating arrangements and a description of what kind of accommodation each guest will require.
Caps and Gowns
Graduates must wear official ASU caps and gowns during the commencement and convocation ceremonies. Tassels are worn on the right at convocation. Master's candidates may wear their hoods. Cap and gown arrangements can be made through the ASU Bookstore. Students eligible for honor cords may pick them up at any registrar’s office. Grad Fair Spring 2017
Graduates will be able to purchase all graduation products such as caps, gowns, announcements, frames, class rings and more at the Downtown Phoenix campus Grad Fair on Thursday, March 16 and Friday, March 17, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the ASU Bookstore. ASU has contracted with GradImages to take professional photographs of graduates backstage prior to the start of the ceremony and as they receive personal congratulations from Dean Callahan at the Cronkite School’s convocation ceremony. Graduates will receive a proof and price information from GradImages approximately seven to ten days after graduation. There is no obligation to make a purchase. Graduates will receive a name card when they check in for the convocation ceremony. Name cards contain the graduate’s name and contact information as entered in the MarchingOrder RSVP form. At the appropriate time during the ceremony, candidates will be asked to stand and proceed to the stage. As candidates approach the stage, they will hand their name card to the announcer. As each name is called, the candidate should walk across the stage and shake hands with Dean Callahan. Graduates will be presented with a memento as they leave the stage.

Comerica Theatre is located in downtown Phoenix at 400 W. Washington St. Convocation ceremony guests may park in the Adams Street Garage (4th Ave. and W. Adams St.).
