Spring 2020 Convocation Ceremony
The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication spring 2020 convocation ceremony will be on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at 7 p.m. at Arizona Federal Theatre, formally known as Comerica Theatre. Doors open at 6 p.m. Graduates should arrive at 6 p.m. There will be signage directing graduates to the West entrance of Arizona Federal Theatre off of 5th Avenue.
The processional will begin promptly at 7 p.m. Degree candidates' names will be read as they cross the stage to receive personal congratulations from Dean Christopher Callahan. The ceremony will end at approximately 8:30 p.m. Please note: all guests attending the Cronkite convocation ceremony will need to comply with Arizona Federal Theatre’s security policy.
The university undergraduate commencement ceremony will be held on Monday, May 11, at 7:30 p.m. at Sun Devil Stadium, Frank Kush Field on the ASU Tempe campus. The university graduate commencement ceremony will be held on Monday, May 11 at 9 a.m. at the Desert Financial Arena (formally known as Wells Fargo Arena) on the ASU Tempe campus. ASU President Michael M. Crow will confer degrees upon graduating students at these ceremonies. For more information, visit the University's Graduation website. Please note, all guests attending commencement ceremonies at ASU venues will need to comply with the university’s Clear Bag Policy.
Applying for Graduation
Students planning to graduate in spring 2020 should apply for graduation by the deadline of Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020. Visit the University Registrar Graduation page for graduation application instructions.
The undergraduate and graduate degree filing fee is $50. An additional $25 fee will be assessed for each additional concurrent degree. A late fee of $35 will be assessed to anyone applying after the Feb. 15 deadline.
*To be considered for Cronkite special students awards and to ensure your name appears in the Cronkite convocation program, you must apply by the Feb. 15 graduation application deadline.
Diplomas are mailed approximately six to eight weeks after the degree conferral date to the home address on file with University Registrar Services. Please update your home address via MyASU prior to Commencement to ensure the delivery of your diploma.
The MarchingOrder RSVP link will be available on the MyASU accounts of all students who have successfully applied for graduation in the beginning of March.

Please note that changes to graduates’ personal information on the MarchingOrder form will apply only to this convocation ceremony. To make changes to permanent information with ASU, sign into MyASU. Each student may RSVP for up to 10 guests. Additional information on ticket distribution will be provided at a later date. The Marching Order RSVP deadline for commencement and convocation ceremonies is Wednesday, April 29, 2020.
Graduating Students Requiring Special Assistance
If you are a graduating student that will need special assistance at the Cronkite convocation ceremony please indicate on the MarchingOrder RSVP form what special arrangements are required so we can best accommodate your needs. Students should also contact the Cronkite School events team at email@example.com to further discuss the arrangements in advance.
Guests Requiring Special Assistance
Students should indicate on the MarchingOrder RSVP form the number of guests in need of special seating arrangements and a description of what type of accommodation each guest will require. Please contact the Cronkite School events team at firstname.lastname@example.org to further discuss needed accommodations.
*Ushers will be available in the lobby to assist guests who will need access to ADA seating. If your guest needs a friend or family member to stay with them please inform the usher so they can best accommodate that request. Assisted Listening Devices are available in the lobby for guests to use during the ceremony. An ASL interpreter will be on stage right.
Caps and Gowns
Graduates must wear official ASU caps and gowns during the commencement and convocation ceremonies. Tassels are worn on the right at convocation. Master's candidates may wear their hoods. Cap and gown arrangements can be made through the ASU Bookstore.
Students eligible for honor cords may pick them up at any Registrar’s Office. More information about honors eligibility may be found on the University’s Graduation website. Grad Fair Spring 2020
Graduates will be able to purchase all graduation products such as caps, gowns, announcements, frames, class rings and more at the Downtown Phoenix Campus Grad Fair on Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the ASU Bookstore. ASU has contracted with GradImages to take professional photographs of graduates backstage prior to the start of the ceremony and as they receive personal congratulations from Dean Callahan at the Cronkite School’s convocation ceremony. Graduates will receive a proof and price information from GradImages approximately seven to 10 days after graduation. There is no obligation to make a purchase. Have friends or family who can’t make it to the Cronkite Convocation ceremony? The Cronkite School Spring 2020 convocation ceremony is available via livestream on the Cronkite School’s Facebook page.
Leis and bouquets will be sold at the convocation ceremonies. Students and guests are encouraged to pre-order for pick up before the ceremony so they can wear their leis on stage and in pictures. To order, visit the Graduation Day Flowers pre-order page.
Graduates will receive a name card when they check in for the convocation ceremony. Name cards contain the graduate’s name and contact information as entered in the MarchingOrder RSVP form. At the appropriate time during the ceremony, candidates will be asked to stand and proceed to the stage. As candidates approach the stage, they will hand their name card to the announcer. As each name is called, the candidate should walk across the stage and shake hands with Dean Callahan. Graduates will be presented with a memento as they leave the stage.
Clear Bag Policy
To enhance public safety and make ASU venues access more efficient, all ASU venues adopted a Clear Bag Policy. All guests may bring in one (1) clear bag no larger than 12" x 6" x 12" or a 1-gallon plastic storage bag. Guests are limited to one clear bag per person, along with a small clutch or purse for privacy. Guests with prohibited bags will need to return their bags to their vehicle and transfer their belongings to an approved clear plastic bag before entering the venue.

Directions and Parking
Arizona Federal Theatre is located in Downtown Phoenix at 400 W. Washington St., Phoenix. Limited free parking is available for graduates and guests in the Adams Street Garage located at 401 W. Adams St., Phoenix on the north side of Adams St. between 4th and 5th Avenues.
The garage will be clearly marked with balloon towers. Entrance to the parking garage states “Employee Parking Only” - see picture below. Access to the garage is available beginning at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12. Your patience is appreciated upon exit of the garage as all Cronkite Convocation graduates, guests, faculty and staff will be exiting the parking garage around the same time.
