For the third straight year, the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University took the top spot in the Broadcast Education Association’s (BEA) ranking of schools based on the creative achievements of their students.
The Cronkite School finished first in the Overall Programs category, as well as the Top Winning Sports Programs and Top Winning News Programs categories. Cronkite also ranked second in the Top Winning Documentary Programs category and third in the Top Winning Interactive Multimedia & Emerging Technology Programs category.
“We are truly honored to be named the best overall program in the BEA school rankings,” said Cronkite School Dean Battinto L. Batts Jr. “Our students and faculty are among the most talented and hardworking in the country, and this ranking signifies how dedicated they are to producing quality work.”
The Cronkite School has topped the rankings every year since the inception of the BEA school rankings in 2022. Cronkite has also finished first in the Top Winning Sports Programs and Top Winning News Programs in each of those years.
The rankings are based on the results from the past five years of student success in the BEA Festival of Media Arts contest, which is known as the preeminent international media competition focused on student and faculty creative endeavors. In the last five years, almost 7,000 student creative works were submitted from more than 300 member institutions around the globe for BEA’s extensive juried process.
Cronkite students and faculty have ranked among the top performers in the BEA Festival of Media Arts for the last several years. In the 2024 contest, Cronkite took 23 awards, including five first place finishes and two Best of Festival awards, the highest honors awarded by BEA.
