Cronkite School Assistant Teaching Professor Roddy Nikpour discovered the “power of radio” in college, where he hosted an ambient music show and served in various director roles at his college station.

Today, he’s inspiring students as Cronkite School faculty, still earning honors for his own work while mentoring the next generation of audio storytellers.

Now, Current, a nonprofit news organization covering public media, has named Nikpour one of its Rising Stars, honoring his contributions in both education and content.

In addition to teaching at the Cronkite School, Nikpour also serves as a producer for KEXP-FM in Seattle and as a fill-in host for KUER-FM in Salt Lake City. He’s also scored and composed music for many public media programs, and taught editorial staff how to produce their own stories.
