A recent Cronkite graduate has already reached a landmark in her career after publishing a story in a renowned national magazine.
Misha Jones, who earned her master’s degree in July wrote a profile of Emily Small, a woman in Australia who took in three baby wombats during the COVID-19 lockdown after it became difficult to commute to the wombat orphanage she co-manages with her mother. The story was published by National Geographic.
Jones earned her bachelor’s degree in film and media studies from The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. She later found her way into the Sun Devil family when she pursued a master’s degree in sports journalism at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
Jones said she is currently finding ways to use her skills to help make the world safe for Black, Brown and indigenous people of color, as well as trans and gender non-conforming people.
“It was great to have something published by National Geographic, but again that only goes so far when I am still Black in America,” she said. “My dream as a journalist is to amplify the voices of people who look like me and those who are worse off than I am.”
