Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2020

Vanessa Ruiz, director of diversity initiatives and community engagement at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, recently appeared on BBC News to discuss Arizona’s role in the upcoming presidential election.

Ruiz, who also serves as an anchor on Arizona PBS and fill-in anchor on PBS NewsHour West, described how the coronavirus pandemic is the number-one issue for voters within the state. She also talked about recent polls showing former Vice President Joe Biden leading President Donald Trump among Arizona voters and the role of Latinos in the upcoming election.

The interview aired on Oct. 8 — the same day Biden, Sen. Kamala Harris, who is the Democratic vice presidential candidate, and current Vice President Mike Pence campaigned in Arizona.
