Join us on Wednesday, Jan. 31 at 5 p.m. as we engage in purposeful discussion of modern election news cycles in media coverage with host Kristy Roschke, director of the News Co/Lab at the Cronkite School and special guests Thomas Collins, executive director of Arizona Citizens Clean Elections Commission; Maria Polletta, investigative reporter at the Arizona Center for Investigative Reporting; Stacey Barchenger, politics reporter at The Arizona Republic; and Roy Herrera, founding partner at Herrera Arellano LLP.

Debates are an integral part of the modern election news cycle. While their purpose is to familiarize voters with candidates’ positions on key issues, they arguably have become more of a spectacle in recent years than a useful platform for discussion. This panel will cover the pros and cons of the current debate format, discuss ideas for reforming and reinventing it, and examine debate media coverage.

Please RSVP here.
