The National Center on Disability and Journalism at Arizona State University is joining with the Harvard Law School Project on Disability to host a panel on journalism and disability rights.
The discussion will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 9, from 2 to 3:15 p.m. (EST) via Zoom at https://harvard.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_1v94tzJzS22T9LblWEBUWA.
Panelists, featuring journalists with and without disabilities, will discuss media coverage of disabilities and efforts that are under way to improve representation of people with disabilities in all forms of media. They also will cover how advocates can work with journalists to promote disability rights and the opportunities and challenges journalists face when covering disability rights issues.
Panelists are:
- Joe Shapiro, NPR News investigations correspondent
- Rosemarie Garland-Thomson, professor emerita of English and bioethics, Emory University
- Eric Garcia, senior Washington correspondent, The Independent
- Amanda Morris, disability reporting fellow, The New York Times.
The panel will be moderated by Kristin Gilger, director of the National Center on Disability and Journalism, part of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University.
