For two weeks every summer, the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication brings high school students to ASU for intensive, hands-on experiences in broadcast and online journalism with the Summer High School Broadcast Institute and the Entravision Summer Digital Media Institute. The institutes are designed to prepare students for college journalism studies and give them an opportunity to explore career options. Summer High School Broadcast Institute The Arizona Broadcasters Association and the Scripps Howard Foundation support the Summer High School Broadcast Journalism Institute, which includes:
  • Class sessions on writing, editing, layout, design and photojournalism under the direction of Cronkite faculty.
  • Discussions with professional journalists who share their experiences and provide advice on media careers at newspapers, Web sites and magazines.
  • The opportunity to produce an online news Web site, working with student journalists from The State Press, ASU’s award-winning daily student newspaper.
  • Visits to media outlets in the Phoenix area.
  • The opportunity to meet and network with student journalists from other high schools in Arizona and around the country.
  • Exposure to life on the campus of a major metropolitan university.
Entravision Summer Digital Media Institute Entravision Communications Corp. supports the summer high school digital journalism institute, which includes:
