The Cronkite News Washington Bureau provides an intensive professional reporting experience for advanced Cronkite students pursuing a journalism degree.
Students spend a semester living in the nation’s capital, experiencing life as a reporter in one of the world’s most influential cities while reporting for the largest Arizona-based newsgathering operation in Washington, D.C.
Located three blocks from the White House, the Cronkite News Washington Bureau reports across the city—from Congress to the Supreme Court and beyond—with an eye toward news and stories that impact Arizonans, whether it’s new legislation, a protest or presidential pronouncement. Cronkite News students work across digital, print and broadcast platforms to cover daily breaking news and develop investigative stories and packages aired and published on Cronkite News platforms.
Students’ work appears regularly in more than 100 professional news outlets statewide and across the nation. Broadcast stories air on the award-winning weekday newscast on Arizona PBS that reaches more than 1.9 million homes across Arizona. Students emerge to cover Capitol Hill, and political beats around the nation.
Course Prerequisites
Students who seek to use this course as a capstone experience must complete the following prerequisites. Please direct questions to the faculty listed below, or your academic adviser.
Undergraduate: JMC 301/302
Undergraduate students interested in TV reporting roles should also complete JMC 330 or JMC 331.
Graduate: MCO 502
Graduate students interested in TV reporting roles should also complete MCO 531.
