Cronkite News Los Angeles is a semester-long reporting experience in news or sports journalism in the nation’s second-largest media market.
Student reporters work out of the Cronkite News Bureau in the historic Herald Examiner Building in downtown Los Angeles, a short distance from City Hall and diverse enclaves such as Little Tokyo and Olvera Street.
In the bureau, broadcast and digital journalism students cover news and sports stories for Arizona PBS’s Cronkite News and other outlets. Students are given time in the field and direction to report stories in LA and across the Southwest, with opportunities to appear on-air at Arizona PBS.
Students gain familiarity with Los Angeles’ vibrant media landscape, while earning bylines in a major media market. This advanced reporting experience focuses on writing, editing and voicing news stories about social justice, sustainability, sport and other coverage areas for Cronkite News.
Course Prerequisites
Students who seek to use this course as a capstone experience must complete the following prerequisites. Please direct questions to the faculty listed below, or your academic adviser.
Undergraduate: JMC301/302
Undergraduate students interested in TV reporting roles should also complete JMC 330 or JMC 331.
Graduate: MCO 502
Graduate students interested in TV reporting roles should also complete MCO 531.
