Top Journalists, Communicators to Take Part in Cronkite School Lecture Series

Political journalists from The Washington Post, the religion editor of CNN and a top communications executive at Intel Corp. are among the headliners of a speaker series this fall at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.Washington Post journalists Dan Balz, Scott Clement and Cathleen Decker as well as CNN religion editor Daniel Burke and Cronkite alumna Laura Anderson (’97), vice president of global marketing and communications at Intel Corp., are all part of this year’s “Must See Mondays,” a series of lectures, panels and presentations at the Cronkite School that are open to the public.Speakers also include Brian Storm, founder and executive producer of MediaStorm, an award-winning film production and interactive design studio, as well as Sarah Holt who will discuss what it takes to make a documentary for NOVA.The series kicks off Aug. 27 with a panel discussion featuring recent Cronkite alumni on careers in journalism and communications.This fall marks the 11th year for the lecture series, which has brought more than 250 lecturers and panelists since 2008. Participants have included Pulitzer Prize-winning reporters, national and international news correspondents, public relations executives and media innovators and entrepreneurs.“This season’s talks take on important issues involving democracy and journalism as well as emerging fields in communications,” said Cronkite School Dean Christopher Callahan. “We are excited to welcome some of the very best in the business and have them share their experiences with our students and faculty as well as the community.”The talks start at 7 p.m. in the Cronkite School’s First Amendment Forum on the ASU Downtown Phoenix campus.
