Top college graduates from across the country are visiting Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication this week as part of an intensive media sales training boot camp through the National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation. The Media Sales Institute is a 10-day residential fellowship program designed to expose recent graduates to the skills necessary to launch media sales careers. Sixteen graduates from 14 universities will participate in the June 7-16 seminar, receiving in-depth training from experts in media research and audience measurement, among other topics. “The Media Sales Institute lays the groundwork for successful careers,” said NABEF President Marcellus Alexander. “We value our partnership with ASU and the opportunity to assist in preparing the next generation of multi-platform sales professionals for the evolving communications space.” The program selects participants on a competitive basis, bringing graduates of diverse backgrounds to the ASU Downtown Phoenix campus for training at the Cronkite School in radio, television, cable, print, digital and Internet sales. Fellows receive admission to the institute, including housing, transportation and meals at no cost, and the opportunity for one-on-one interviews with national and regional media companies. ABC, BET, CBS, ESPN, FOX, Gannett and NBC are among the companies that regularly attend the institute. ASU is one of only four institutions in the nation to host this annual event, alongside Florida A&M University, Howard University and Ohio University. This is the second year the program is being held at the Cronkite School. “We are thrilled to partner again with the National Association of Broadcasters to host the Media Sales Institute,” said Cronkite Assistant Dean Mark Lodato, who leads the institute. “The program provides extraordinary experiences and networking opportunities that offer participants a real edge in landing media sales jobs with leading media companies.” The Media Sales Institute is supported by the Gannett Foundation. NABEF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to reinforcing the future of broadcasting through a commitment to education and to advancing excellence in the diversity and community service efforts in the industry. The NAB is a trade association that advocates on behalf of more than 8,300 free, local radio and television stations and also broadcast networks before Congress, the Federal Communications Commission and the courts. 2015 Media Sales Institute Participants Shannon Barr Arizona State University Julie Bixler University of Idaho Kalen Bobadilla University of Oklahoma Colleen Curry West Chester University Thomas Dempsey Ithaca College Oluwafemi Ehinmiakhena North Carolina A&T David Good Arizona State University Cole Hanson DePauw University Angelica Mormile Bowling Green State University Kierra Perry North Carolina A&T Hope Pittard East Carolina University Aaleeyah Pringle Georgia State University John Roda Ursinus College Marisol Ruiz Grand Canyon University Taylor Shimizu University of Washington Dustin Yourishin Colorado State University-Pueblo
