Dual Degree: Journalism and Legal Studies (MMC/MLS)
In this dual-degree program, the Cronkite School and ASU’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law prepare students who want to ground their journalism in a deep understanding of legal issues or who want to apply a legal foundation to careers in media management, entrepreneurship, emerging technology or strategic communications. Students complete the Master of Mass Communication and Master of Legal Studies in just four semesters.

The dual-degree offers flexibility to customize your path. In the MMC, students can explore opportunities in multimedia journalism, strategic communications, audience engagement, media leadership and innovation. In the MLS, students develop expertise in legal topics such as business, immigration, science and technology, sports and tribal self-governance.

The Cronkite School faculty includes award-winning journalists, digital strategists, media innovators, First Amendment scholars and industry leaders. The Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law faculty features legal scholars, practicing attorneys and professionals, all working to ensure a rich and meaningful learning experience.
Develop your professional portfolio
The Cronkite School has pioneered the hands-on “teaching hospital” model of journalism education. Students learn to produce content from day one using text, photo, video, audio, social and immersive media. They graduate with portfolios of award-winning work distributed by media partners across the country.
National and international reporting opportunities
Students have opportunities to travel internationally in the second and third semesters of the MMC program, and they can choose capstone experiences in Phoenix, Los Angeles or Washington, D.C.
Graduate funding available
All applicants are considered for Cronkite fellowships, assistantships and scholarships. December 1 is the priority deadline for funding.
