Television Production and Graphics Lab

Television Production and Graphics Lab

The Television Production and Graphics Lab provides students with real-world television experience. Students work with Cronkite News and Arizona PBS to bring productions to life, learn the facets of control room production and discover what it takes to turn reporter content into vibrant productions.

Students work on productions that include the Cronkite News newscast, “Horizon” on Arizona PBS, Facebook Live news and sports shows, and Spanish-language programs.

Among the skills students learn are the use of Adobe’s “After Effects” to build creative graphics that are used on-air to enhance stories for the newscasts and reporter packages.

In addition, students have the opportunity to work in the field with professionals from Arizona PBS to learn field production shooting, lighting and audio skills.

The lab is directed by Jim Jacoby, director of studio production for the Cronkite School and Arizona PBS. Jacoby has 20 years of experience in television news and is an Emmy-winning editor and director.
