High School Outreach Programs

The Cronkite School has cancelled summer high school camps summer due to the Covid-19 virus.

Students who already have submitted their applications to the three Cronkite Camp programs — Summer Journalism Institute, High School Media Innovation Camp and the Cronkite Sports Broadcast Boot Camp — will be given first review for program opportunities in 2021.

 Summer High School Journalism Program

The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication offers a series of enrichment programs for middle and high school students. Programs are based at ASU’s Downtown Phoenix campus or in the field. Programs are led by faculty, staff and student counselors.

The health and safety of the Sun Devil community is our top priority at Arizona State University.

With that as our guide, the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication has made the difficult decision to cancel our Cronkite Camps for high school students this summer due to the COVID-19 virus.

Students who already have their applications to the three Cronkite Camp programs – Summer Journalism Institute, High School Media Innovation Camp and the Cronkite Sports Broadcast Boot Camp – will be given first review for program opportunities in 2021.

Cronkite Sports Broadcast Boot Camp

This on-campus journalism summer camp puts participants in the middle of the action covering professional sports teams such as the Arizona Diamondbacks and Phoenix Mercury.

High School Media Innovation Camp

The High School Media Innovation Camp at the Cronkite School offers future journalists, game developers and other students interested in media and technology the chance to experiment with cutting-edge tools, including augmented and virtual reality technologies, news games and apps. The High School Media Innovation Camp is for students interested in delivering journalism in creative, highly digital ways.

Summer Journalism Institute

For two weeks every summer, the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication brings top-performing high school students to ASU for two weeks of intensive, hands-on experiences in broadcast and digital journalism.
