NBC News White House correspondent Vaughn Hillyard will become the newest member of the Alumni Hall of Fame at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication this May.

The Arizona native will be inducted as part of ceremonies surrounding the spring graduation season.

Earlier this year Hillyard was promoted to White House correspondent for NBC News after a decade on the road across the country covering campaigns, policy and human-impact stories.

Hillyard earned both a bachelor's and master's degree from ASU in 2013 before moving to NBC. There he worked as a Tim Russert Fellow, political reporter, associate producer and correspondent before earning the White House correspondent position.

"I'm humbled to be honored by the Cronkite School, the institution that opened the path for me to be a White House correspondent today," Hillyard said. "The faculty and my fellow students at the Cronkite School instilled in me the energy, ethics and integrity that we should all strive for in being vehicles of truth. Their investment in reporting, storytelling and those who are drawn to our rapidly-evolving newsrooms, is crucial to a functioning democracy."

Cronkite School Dean Battinto L. Batts said Hillyard represents the very best.

"Vaughn represents the ideals of the Cronkite School: a commitment to serving the public with accurate information about the issues and events that impact their lives," Batts said. "The trajectory of his career is a testament to his talent and hard work. We are very proud that he is one of our graduates."

Hillyard will be inducted into the Cronkite Alumni Hall of Fame during an invitation-only ceremony on Wednesday, May 14, at 5 p.m., and join Cronkite Convocation on Thursday, May 15, at 2 p.m.
