ASU promotes Cronkite scholar to full professor

Dr. Hazel Kwon, a distinguished scholar in the field of digital media and the lead researcher at the The Media Information, Data, and Society (MIDaS) Lab at Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, has been promoted to the rank of full professor. 

This notable achievement underscores Dr. Kwon’s significant contributions to academia, her dedication to research excellence and her unwavering commitment to education.

Dr. Kwon joined Arizona State University in 2012 and the Cronkite School in 2016. She has established herself as a leading voice in the study of online communication, social media dynamics and the impact of digital technologies on society. Her innovative research delves into the complex interactions between digital platforms and users, exploring themes such as online incivility, misinformation and the socio-psychological effects of digital media.

When considering promotion to full professor, ASU reviews the candidate’s overall record of excellence and continued effectiveness in research, scholarship, teaching, and service.

Throughout her time at the Cronkite School, Dr. Kwon has garnered numerous accolades and research grants. Her work has been widely published in prestigious academic journals, and she has been an invited speaker at several national and international conferences.
