Would you like to help build a strong support system for International Fellows studying at the Cronkite School?

The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program is looking for Global Friends who can help the Humphrey Fellows adjust to life in the Phoenix area and the U.S.

The Humphrey Fellowship Program’s main goal is to foster a mutual exchange of knowledge and understanding about common issues involving the U.S. and the fellows’ home countries.

“My Global Friend is very great,” said Johnson Mayamba, a Humphrey Fellow from Uganda. “He has always ensured that we share and learn from each other’s cultures and have the best experience. He made settling in America for the first time very smooth. We always look out for each other and that helps me not to be lonely or feel homesick.”

Global Friends are an integral part of the Humphrey Fellowship experience because they not only help fellows integrate into the Phoenix community, but also provide an excellent opportunity for the fellows to grow both personally and professionally.

“My Global Friend is a fantastic friend. She made me feel like family. The best part about her is that she communicates and is always ready to help,” said Dilshad Elita Karim, a fellow from Bangladesh.

Becoming a Global Friend has proven to be a great opportunity for fostering meaningful, life-long friendships with academics from across the world. “I’m very happy to have my Global Friends,” said Balint Fabok, from Hungary. “They are attentive, curious people and I’m also glad to get to know better the daily life of an American family.”

Did you know the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication is one of 13 campuses and the only journalism school in the country to host the Humphrey Fellowship? The university has hosted 124 fellows from over 60 different countries since 2010.
