Sun Devil Giving Day is an important celebration in the ASU community, focused on gifts that have a year-long impact. Students at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication see that impact first-hand while pursuing their dreams.

Cronkite scholarships have allowed students who didn’t believe they’d be able to attend college a chance to fully dive into their academics without having to worry about how they would pay for school or living expenses. What was once a lofty dream for many students has become a reality.

I truly wouldn’t be able to continue my degree if it weren’t for the assistance of Cronkite scholarships. I’m sure it’s widely known that many students can’t afford to pay for college out of pocket, and working during college is always harder than it seems. No student wants to stress about their education, and Cronkite scholarships allowed me to attend school happily, knowing I was covered by scholarships that awarded me for continuing my education.

Giving on Sun Devil Giving Day is so important! Giving on this day provides opportunities for students university-wide, opportunities that might have felt impossible. Knowing that your donations give a passionate student the chance to make their dreams come true is a gift that keeps on giving.

If it weren’t for supporters of the Cronkite School…I wouldn’t be continuing my ASU degree. It’s true! I am beyond grateful for the scholarships I have received and the scholarships I will receive in the coming semesters.

It wouldn’t be a top journalism school in the country, it wouldn’t be my home, and it wouldn’t be a strong, tight-knit community.

I have a twin brother, who goes to Indiana University and the financial strain on both my parents and myself have hit severely. With Cronkite scholarships, I was able to allocate money to pay rent for my apartment, instead of allocating it for school. Any amount of money is helpful and it was incredible to get aid through Cronkite scholarships.

Why is it important for people to give on Sun Devil Giving Day?

It is important for people to give on Giving Day because any amount of gratitude and help is beneficial. Having the ability to not worry about one piece of the cost for school alleviates stress and worry. Also, giving gratitude to those that have helped you means a lot to me and others.

If it weren’t for supporters of the Cronkite School…

I don’t know how I would be able to fully cover the expenses for college, including the tuition, textbook/supplies, rent, groceries, and any other things. Any aid helps and is extremely beneficial for me.

Cronkite scholarships benefited me as they paid a part of my tuition in my senior year of college. I am paying for college all on my own, so these scholarships took a bit of weight off my shoulders, allowing me to work a little less and focus more time on doing well in school.

Why is it important for people to give on Sun Devil Giving Day?

It is important for people to give on Sun Devil Giving Day because so many students work so hard in school to create the future they want but struggle with paying tuition or living expenses. These are the people who will mold and change our future; they just need a chance to make it.

If it weren’t for supporters of the Cronkite School…

I’d probably be working two jobs, be extremely stressed, and unable to maintain my 4.0 GPA. I am very thankful for those who have decided to give back to the Cronkite School.

I am so incredibly thankful for the Cronkite scholarships that I have received over the course of my academic journey. As a first-generation college student, college was always a dream and I never thought I would be able to financially afford it. Thankfully, because of Cronkite scholarships I am able to be here in Arizona and get such an amazing education from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism. I am so incredibly grateful for Cronkite scholarships because they have helped me stay financially afloat and be able to pay for my tuition so that I can continue taking the Cronkite courses that I love and learn from highly-skilled and knowledgeable professors with real-world experiences. My scholarships have also helped me fully focus on education and given me more time for life-changing internships that have helped shape my path as a journalist. So thank you so, so much to all the supporters of the Cronkite School who have helped students like myself follow their dreams and go to college and chase after their dream jobs. Thank you.

I wouldn’t be able to have been the first person in my family to go to college. Thank you so much to the supporters of the Cronkite School who change students’ lives like my own every year. Thank you.

Cronkite scholarships have taken an immense load off my tuition and allowed me to stay at an elite school during a pandemic. My family’s financial situation is always wavering during these times and outside factors, but I was so happy to tell my parents I received the Bill Austin Memorial Scholarship. They were, too.

Why is it important for people to give on Sun Devil Giving Day?

It is important to give on Sun Devil Giving Day because everyone needs help right now. Our country has been so good at rallying together to help those in need this past year, and that should carry over into “normal” years.

If it weren’t for the supporters of the Cronkite School …

I would not be here.
