The winners of the 2017 Barlett & Steele Awards share their award-winning investigations with James B. Steele, part of the Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporting duo of Barlett & Steele, and Professor Andrew Leckey, president, Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism.
Reporters from the Chicago Tribune will discuss the challenges they faced uncovering commonplace – and potentially fatal – errors by the nation’s largest pharmacies in their Gold Award-winning investigation, “Dangerous Doses."
The winners of the Silver and Bronze Awards also will be on hand to share their investigations. The Silver Award winner, Post and Courier of Charleston, South Carolina, reported on the complex financial transactions of betrayal and greed in the demise of employee-owned Piggly Wiggly grocery store.The Bronze Award winner, MedPage Today, revealed how non-life-threatening conditions once considered little more than everyday ailments have been named medical disorders by drug companies.
