Mark Trahant, editor of Indian Country Today, will discuss the media outlet's move into the Cronkite School. Trahant and his staff are busy keeping up with presidential candidates and launching a daily television program – part of the goal to improve coverage of Native American issues and to change the media narrative about Indian country.
“We all know the stereotypes and narratives that come out of Washington or Hollywood,” Trahant said. “So a news program, one that reaches millions of people via public television stations, has the chance to change the story, showing the beauty, intelligence and aspirations of Native people.”
The discussion will be introduced by Assistant Dean Rebecca Blatt.
