Since October, thousands of children in Central America have traveled hundreds of miles to turn themselves in at the U.S. border. Many come with the false hopes that they will be allowed to remain in the country indefinitely.
The Arizona Republic went to Central America, Mexico and the Rio Grande Valley to follow these "pipeline kids," examining why they leave and the obstacles they face on their journey.
Join Republic opinion writer Linda Valdez as she moderates a panel featuring reporters Bob Ortega and Daniel Gonzalez and photographers Michael Chow and David Wallace. All are covering this important story and will share what they've learned about this crisis.
Reporters on the Ground: The Child Immigration Crisis is presented by The Arizona Republic and the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication in partnership with Valle del Sol, the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Valley Leadership.
The event will be streamed live online on azcentral.com’s home page. The public is encouraged to participate in the discussion at www.azcentral.com or on Twitter using the hashtag #immigrantchildren.
