Hacking + Activism: Aaron Swartz, Anonymous and the Ethics of Digital Community

A conversation with author and activist Cory Doctorow

Monday, February 11, 2013 - 10:30am to 12:00pm

The recent prosecution and suicide of digital innovator and activist Aaron Swartz and the increasingly public actions of the hacker collective Anonymous have brought unprecedented attention to the role of hacktivism in our digital world. Is hacking an effective form of activism? Where do we draw the line between ethical protest and destructive radicalism online? What rights and responsibilities do we have as citizens in an increasingly corporatized digital world? Join author and activist Cory Doctorow and a panel of experts including Ed Finn, director of ASU’s Center for Science and the Imagination, and Dawn Gilpin, assistant professor at the Cronkite School, to discuss the future of privacy, civic unrest and collective action.
