The Cronkite School is one of several schools at ASU with higher admission standards than the university overall. To be eligible for admission to the journalism school as a journalism or sports journalism major, entering freshmen must have a minimum 3.0 ABOR high school GPA AND no English competency deficiencies (four years of English) AND meet one of the following criteria: an SAT reasoning score of at least 1120 OR an ACT score of at least 22. Eligible students are directly admitted to the school and do not need to submit any additional materials.
International students must also take the TOEFL and meet the Cronkite School's required score on this test.
If you are a high school student interested in majoring in Journalism and Mass Communication or Sports Journalism, you should apply to Arizona State University as a degree-seeking student and indicate the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication as your first choice on your application. Be sure to have both your transcripts and test scores sent to ASU.
Transfer students who would like to major in Journalism and Mass communication or Sports Journalism at ASU must have at least a 3.0 transfer GPA.
Students who have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA in at least 12 hours of ASU credit in applicable non-elective courses and who want to change their majors to Journalism and Mass Communication or Sports Journalism will automatically be admitted to the Cronkite School and assigned a Cronkite adviser. If this applies to you, you may call 602.496.5055 to schedule an advising appointment. If you are unsure if you are eligible, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your ASU ID number and a brief summary of your particular situation.

They are held on Tuesday afternoons from 3:30-4 p.m. and on Friday mornings from 8:30-10 a.m. Students can check in for walk-in advising in Cronkite room 222. Please call the advising office at 602.496.5055 before the walk-in day you are planning to attend to ensure it is still being held that day. While rare, sometimes walk-in appointments get canceled due to unforeseen circumstances.
