Frank Mungeam, Knight Professor of Practice, TV News Innovation

Frank MungeamFrank Mungeam is the Knight Professor of Practice for TV News Innovation, and will lead the collaboration and experimentation arms of a unique three-part project to promote local TV news innovation through research, collaboration and experimentation as part of a John S. and James L. Knight Foundation initiative to innovate local TV news. Mungeam previously served as TEGNA’s vice president of digital audience engagement with a focus on digital innovation, strategic partnerships and best practices to engage audiences on digital and social media platforms. Previously, he was TEGNA’s VP of digital content, leading the company’s digital and social strategy. He joined the TEGNA corporate team in July 2014 as Director of Digital Content for Gannett Broadcasting.

Prior to joining TEGNA Media, Mungeam was Director of Digital Media for KGW-TV, and was the New Media Director at KATU-TV, both in Portland, Oregon. Mungeam began his media career in broadcasting, as a TV producer in Seattle and then an executive producer in Portland.

Mungeam graduated with honors from Harvard University with a degree in psychology. He also has a Masters in Communication and Leadership Studies from Gonzaga University. Mungeam has taught courses on digital and social media as an adjunct professor in the Creative Media and Digital Culture Program at Washington State University and has authored two books.
