Walter Cronkite Award for
Excellence in Journalism

February 8, 2024 • 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Sheraton Phoenix Downtown

Every year, a leading figure in journalism is presented with the prestigious Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism. The recipient list reads like a Who’s Who of the media world: Gayle King, Al Roker, Dean Baquet, Lester Holt, Anderson Cooper, Judy Woodruff, Gwen Ifill, Robin Roberts, Tom Brokaw, Ben Bradlee, Al Michaels and Katharine Graham, just to name a few.

Cronkite presented the first award in 1984 to two CBS legends who played influential roles in his extraordinary career: William Paley, founder of CBS, and Frank Stanton, longtime CBS president.

The Cronkite Award luncheon has become one of the biggest and most anticipated events in the Phoenix metropolitan area each year, with leaders from the worlds of media, business and education joining Cronkite School students and faculty. About 1,000 people attend each year.

Last year, more than 70 media outlets, communication agencies and individual industry leaders
sponsored the 39th Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism, raising over $280,000 to
support student access and success.

Your gifts made all of this possible, and we thank you.
