Curriculum Vitae

Marianne Barrett brought her experiences as an ESPN programming executive to the Cronkite School when she joined the faculty in 1994.

She received her doctorate in mass media from Michigan State University and her Master of Professional Studies in media administration from Syracuse University.

Barrett twice received a Faculty Development Grant from the National Association of Television Programming Executives (NATPE) and was the International Radio and Television Society’s (IRTS) 2002 Frank Stanton Fellow.

Her work has appeared in The Journal of Media Economics, Communication Law and Policy, The Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media, Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly, and The Broadcast Cable Financial Management Journal.

She is the book review editor of The Journal of Broadcasting and Electronic Media and serves on the editorial board of the International Journal on Media Management and Journalism Educator. She also has held leadership positions in the Broadcast Education Association and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.

Her research focuses on television audiences, media management, economics and policy.
