The Cronkite Endowment Board of Trustees was created in 1983 to support the Cronkite School. The board is composed of top media leaders from across Phoenix, the nation’s fifth-largest city, and from around the Valley. Editors and publishers of newspapers, magazines and digital media outlets, general managers of television and radio stations, public relations executives and other industry leaders all serve as members. They advise the dean and support students through mentorships, internships and portfolio reviews, among other efforts. The board also plans the school’s annual Cronkite Luncheon, at which the Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism is presented each year to a leading journalist. The event is one of the most popular in the Valley, with more than 1,000 people attending each year, and it generates funds that support a number of school programs.
