Dozens of real estate agents and mortgage brokers and others rallied Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at the Tempe office of U.S. Sen. John McCain, urging him to support a bill that would allow seller-assisted down payments to continue. The practice, which under a new law will be banned as of Oct. 1 for mortgages secured by the Federal Housing Administration, has been criticized as contributing to foreclosures nationally.
