Graduate Admissions

Students are admitted to the Cronkite School’s Master of Mass Communication program for the fall semester only. The deadline is Feb. 1 of each year. Students apply online at http://graduate.asu.edu/and submit their materials to ASU’s Graduate College.

To be considered for admission to ASU and the Cronkite School, graduate students must have at least a 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) grade-point average in the last 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of undergraduate coursework. Applicants should have official transcripts of all college-level work sent to:

Graduate College
Arizona State University
1120 S. Cady Mall
Interdisciplinary Building B-Wing, Room 170
P O Box 871003
Tempe, AZ 85287-1003

All applicants are required to take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). International students must also take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The GRE and, if required, the TOEFL, must be taken by the Feb. 1 application deadline. Students can have these scores automatically submitted to ASU and the Cronkite School by using institution code 4007.

Additional information on the graduate college’s application requirements can be found at http://www.asu.edu/graduate and http://graduate.asu.edu/student_community/international.

As part of the online application, the Cronkite School requires applicants to submit the following additional materials:

  • A resume and/or biographical sketch
  • A 350- to 500-word personal statement that serves as a writing sample. In the personal statement, the applicant should detail his/her reasons for pursuing the MMC degree in the Cronkite School.

The school also requires three letters of recommendation written on letterhead, at least one of which reliably assesses the likelihood the applicant will succeed in graduate school. Applicants submit the names and email addresses of the three recommenders on the online application. Recommenders will be notified by email to submit their letters electronically.

The Cronkite School’s graduate committee reviews complete applications on an intensive rolling basis between December and March and submits its admissions recommendations to the Graduate College for final approval. The committee does not review incomplete applications or those submitted after the Feb. 1 deadline.
