Michael Casavantes teaches in the Cronkite School’s broadcast specialization. He has 15 years experience in broadcast news, with five years as a television reporter, anchor, and producer for the ABC and NBC affiliates in El Paso, Texas. He also served 10 years as news director of a 100,000-watt public radio affiliate in Las Cruces, N.M. The New Mexico Farm Bureau selected Casavantes as Radio News Director of the Year in 1983 and named him Broadcaster of the Year in 1989. Casavantes has received awards for teaching excellence at both New Mexico State University and Arizona State University. He earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication from the University of Texas at El Paso, his master’s degree in international relations from New Mexico State University and his Ph.D. in history from Arizona State University. | |
