Marianne Barrett, as senior associate dean, assists and advises the dean in a variety of ways including mentoring junior faculty, implementing curriculum, overseeing the Cronkite School’s graduate and undergraduate programs, course scheduling, enrollment management and admissions. Barrett previously served the school as the associate director for academic affairs. She joined the faculty of the Cronkite School as an assistant professor in 1994. She received her doctorate in mass media from Michigan State University in 1993, and her Master of Professional Studies in media administration from Syracuse University in 1988. Prior to beginning her graduate studies, Barrett worked for almost 15 years in the television industry, primarily as a programming executive. She was director of program scheduling for ESPN in New York, and director of programming for WVIA-TV in Scranton, Penn. In March 2002, Barrett was named the Frank Stanton Fellow by the International Radio and Television Society (IRTS). The award recognizes "outstanding contributions to electronic media education" and was presented at the IRTS’s annual Faculty-Industry Seminar in New York. Her work has appeared in The Journal of Media Economics, Communication Law and Policy, The Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media, Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly, and The Broadcast Cable Financial Management Journal. She is on the editorial board of the International Journal on Media Management and has held leadership positions in the Broadcast Education Association and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. Barrett has taught MCO 510 research methodology, JMC 472 media management and JMC 332 electronic media programming. Her research focuses on media economics topics. | |
