SDTV-Channel 2Channel 2, also known as SDTV or Sun Devil Television, is a closed-circuit cable television station available in all residence halls and Greek housing on campus as well as in the Memorial Union, Student Recreational Center and the Towers, an off-campus residence hall that houses mostly upperclassmen. SDTV is part of the Department of Student Media, which also includes The State Press, ASU’s daily student newspaper, and the Web Devil, the online branch of The State Press. The station operates out of the basement of Matthews Center located just north of the Hayden Library lawn. The station is entirely run by students, who produce daily news updates as well as a variety of sports and entertainment shows. The station also airs first-run movies and MTV-U programming. As a student-run operation, SDTV relies heavily on volunteers. Volunteers can develop and produce their own shows as well as serve as reporters, on-air talent, videographers, editors and technicians. Many volunteers are freshmen who have had no previous broadcast experience and who want to try their hand at broadcasting. Paid positions are available for more experienced students who take on leadership roles, such as general manager, station manager, promotions director, news director and production editor. SDTV hosts meetings at the start of each semester to enroll students interested in volunteering. Cronkite students will receive an e-mail at the start of each semester with information about these meetings.
