We’d love to hear your memories of the Cronkite School. Was there a professor or class that made a difference in your life? Perhaps you met and talked with Walter Cronkite during one of his many visits to the school or you have fond memories of your days working on the student newspaper or on the student newscast. Whatever your favorite recollection, you can share it here.

One of the most exciting courses I took was the Latino and Transnational Issues class with Rick Rodriguez. We traveled to the Mexican/U.S. border and to Yuma, Arizona to discuss these issues with community leaders. I learned so much from that class and wish I could have taken depth reporting. Unfortunately, my schedule didn’t allow for it…. I’d recommend the class to anyone in a heartbeat.
The advanced journalism writing class was the most helpful class I took at ASU. I remember the professor wouldn’t give me the letter of recommendation he wrote for me until I could explain why he didn’t use a hyphen after an adverb ending in “ly.” My senior year I was particularly proud of getting an A in Professor Youm’s Comm Law class.
We still wrote our articles on IBM Selectric II typewriters when I studied print journalism at ASU. The era of desktop publishing was still just on the horizon. I recall writing a mass-communications term paper at home on a manual typewriter. Access to a PC would have been such a help.
Being in the Digital Media Entrepreneurship classes, the most memorable thing for me was being introduced to all the open-source platforms that empower journalists to create their own ventures in the new media space.
