Grady Gammage Memorial Auditorium, ASU, Tempe campus
The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication is proud to announce its spring 2007 Convocation Ceremony on Friday, May 11, at ASU’s Gammage Auditorium. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Graduates line up between 6:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. The processional will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. Degree candidates’ names are read as they cross the stage to receive personal congratulations from Dean Christopher Callahan. The ceremony will end with a formal recessional at approximately 8:30 p.m.
The University Commencement Ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 10, at 9:30 a.m. in the Wells Fargo Arena on the ASU Tempe campus. Students from all colleges and degree programs are invited to participate. ASU President Michael Crow will confer degrees upon graduating students at this ceremony. For more information, visit: http://www.asu.edu/ssc/commence/.
Please join the Cronkite School faculty and guests at a reception to honor the graduating class of 2007. The reception will immediately follow the convocation ceremony at approximately 8:30 p.m. and will take place on the front steps on Gammage Auditorium. Light hors d'oeuvres will be served.
Graduates must wear official ASU caps and gowns during the commencement and convocation ceremonies. Tassels are worn on the left at convocation since graduates will have already received their degrees at commencement. Master’s candidates may wear their hoods. Cap and gown arrangements can be made through the ASU Bookstore.
Professional photographs will be taken of all graduates as they receive personal congratulations from Dean Callahan at the Cronkite School’s Convocation Ceremony. Graduates will receive a proof and price information from Chappell Studios approximately seven to 10 days after graduation. There is no obligation to make a purchase.
Candidates for graduation will receive a name card when they pick up their vouchers for graduation. These should be filled out and brought to the Convocation Ceremony. Graduates who misplace their name cards can get a replacement at the ceremony. At the appropriate time during the ceremony, candidates will be asked to stand and proceed to the stage. As candidates approach the stage, they will hand their name card to the announcer. As each name is called, the candidate should walk across the stage and shake hands with Dean Callahan. Graduates will be presented with a memento as they leave the stage.
Please call the Cronkite School Special Events Office at 602.496.5124 to make arrangements.
Diplomas are mailed approximately 10 weeks after the end of the semester to the permanent address on file with the Registrar’s Office. If this address has not been updated, please do so prior to convocation ceremonies.
Each student is allowed 10 vouchers for guests. Students can pick up vouchers in the Cronkite School's main office beginning at 8 a.m. on April 2. Vouchers should be redeemed for reserved seating at the Gammage ticket office before May 8. Seating is issued on a first-come first-served basis and students receive one ticket for each voucher. Any unclaimed vouchers will be released on April 16. Students wishing to obtain additional vouchers should come to the Cronkite School's main office on April 16 to claim available vouchers. On the day of convocation, guests without tickets will be asked to form a queue outside the auditorium doors and, if space allows, will be permitted to enter Gammage 10 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony.
