Cronkite Leadership Academy

The Cronkite Leadership Academy is open to New American University President’s, Provost’s and out-of-state Dean’s scholarship recipients who are first-time freshmen enrolled in the Cronkite School. Arizona State University automatically considers all first-time freshmen applicants for these merit scholarships.

Cronkite Leadership Academy participants will benefit from a variety of special opportunities designed to build their leadership skills, engage them in the community and enhance their ASU experience, including:

• Participation in large-scale service-learning projects led by Mary Cook, Cronkite director of student success.
• Enrollment in a special section of ASU 101: The ASU Experience, a one-credit course required for all ASU freshmen.
• Participation in leadership development seminars led by Cronkite faculty on topics such as entrepreneurship, global issues and more.

2013-2014 Seminars include:

  • Sept. 7 10:30 a.m.-noon Cronkite Deans Christopher Callahan, Marianne Barrett, Kristin Gilger and Mark Lodato on Leadership
  • Oct. 5 10:30 a.m.-noon Walter Cronkite Professor of Journalism Aaron Brown on Personal Goal Setting
  • Nov. 2 10:30 a.m.-noon Peter Byck on Global Sustainability and Journalism
  • Nov. 16 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (optional workshop) Entrepreneurship in the Digital Space
  • Jan. 25 10:30 a.m.-noon Tim McGuire on Entrepreneurship
  • March 22 10:30 a.m.-noon Director of Cronkite’s New Media Innovation Lab Retha Hill on Leading Innovation

All Cronkite first-time freshmen who are admitted to Barrett, The Honors College, also are eligible to participate in the Cronkite Leadership Academy.
